AHS International is the world's premier professional vertical flight society. Since its inception in 1944, AHS has been a major force in the advancement of a global rotorcraft industry, marked by rapid technical developments and expanding military capabilities and commercial applications. The strength of AHS as a professional and technical society is its diverse international professional and corporate membership. The aim of the society is not only to emphasize and further engineering excellence in traditional rotorcraft platform disciplines, but to expand this focus to the multidisciplinary fields of vertical flight and the related support industries. By supporting the needs of today's vertical flight industry and advocating the requirements for tomorrow's industry, the AHS will benefit both military and commercial sectors of the rotorcraft industry.

The Hampton Roads Chapter (HRC) of AHS represents all of Virginia (excepting zip codes 22000-22499).  The HRC of the AHS has approximately 230 members and is one of the most active chapters within AHS.  Our members are employed by the military, government agencies, and industry including:

  • US Army Aviation Applied Technology Directorate (AATD, Ft. Eustis Va)
  • Army Research Lab (ARL), Vehicle Technology Directorate
  • Research, Development and Engineering Command RDECOM
  • NASA Langley Research Center
  • Local Industry: Sikorsky Aircraft, Boeing, Lockheed Martin , General Electric, Pratt and Whitney, Rolls Royce, Eagle Aviation Technologies, Inc, Advanced Technologies, Inc, Triumph Aerospace
  • In addition we have an active group of retired members and student members at Old Dominion University, North Carolina State University and other colleges in Virginia

April 2008

Mrs. Mia Copeland, President of the Hampton Road Chapter of the American Helicopter Society presented a $1,000.00 check to Mrs. Josie Berry, VP Business, USO of Hampton Roads. The funds were raised during the last AHS Propulsion Specialist Meeting golf tournament held in October of 2007.
